The Journey

Not every great Tanzania trip is wall-to-wall game drives. This escape blends the essential wildlife — Tarangire’s elephants, the Ngorongoro Crater — with the green, human side of the north: waterfall hikes, Chagga coffee culture and Kilimanjaro filling the horizon.

The safari days deliver the classics in comfort. Then the route turns east to the mountain’s foothills, where the village of Materuni farms coffee in the banana shade and a 70-metre waterfall waits at the end of an easy, beautiful hike.

You will roast and drink coffee you helped make, swim beneath glacier-fed falls, and — on clear mornings — watch the summit of Africa float above it all from your lodge veranda.

Ideal for active travellers, for anyone combining Tanzania with a beach week, and for those who want to see Kilimanjaro without committing to climbing it.

Arrive — Mountain on the Horizon

Arusha

Met at Kilimanjaro International and transferred to a garden lodge outside Arusha. If the evening is clear, your first Kilimanjaro view comes with the welcome drink.

Tarangire — The Elephant Day

Tarangire National Park

A full day along the Tarangire River among northern Tanzania’s biggest elephant herds, baobabs and dry-season crowds of zebra and wildebeest. Picnic lunch in the park.

Day 3

Ngorongoro Crater

An early start for the crater descent — the Big Five in a single caldera, with real black rhino chances. Ascend mid-afternoon to a Karatu farm lodge for coffee-country calm.

East to the Foothills

Materuni Falls & Coffee

Materuni village

Hike through banana groves and coffee farms to the 70-metre Materuni Falls — swim if you dare, the water is glacier-fed. Then the full Chagga coffee ceremony: roast, pound, sing, brew, drink.
